Power Systems Technician: San Juan, Puerto Rico

ACI-Herzog is seeking Power System Technicians to work on the Tren Urbano system in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Tren Urbano is a rapid transit system, comprised of 10.7-miles and 16 stations, serving the municipalities of San Juan, Guaynabo, and Bayamon in Puerto Rico. Tren Urbano is central part of the public transportation network, serving multiple universities and technical colleges, major medical centers, the city’s financial district, entertainment venues and many residential neighborhoods.

SUMMARY

Licensed Master Electrician responsible for energizing and de-energizing process, including the application of lock out/tag out procedure, on the power distribution though the mainline and the stations. Perform complex repairs and inspections of Power low and high voltage distribution equipment and other related devices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist Power Systems Supervisor in all facets.
  • Work with equipment operators, to address problems with the equipment and determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical problems.
  • Perform safety inspections/tests of Power low and high voltage distribution equipment.
  • Report all deficiencies found during inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Follow all safety procedures required for the application of energizing and de-energizing process and assure that all related personnel follow it. Responsibilities included are the inspection of ground devices, installation of the ground devices, measurement of voltage on the equipment to be work, and logging of all ground devices installed and all equipment de-energized and energized during shift.
  • Verify faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction.
  • Notify supervisor of defective components and wiring. Able to detect problems or defects on electrical and mechanical parts.
  • Test electronic components and circuits to locate defects and replace the defective components.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of BPSS, TPSS, SPSS, UPS and Electrical rooms in addition to all those areas likes lighting systems, etc. in accordance to equipment and safety guidelines and target finish dates.
  • Align, adjust, and calibrate equipment according to specifications. Verify and inspects of testing and protection instruments for necessary calibration, repairs or etc.  Identify faulty equipment and instruments before usage. Maintains records of inspection, repairs, calibration and, tests.
  • Use computer to copy programs from one electronic component to another, generation of work orders or to report through e-mail.
  • Perform wiring and cabling activities of electrical systems.
  • Maintain documentation of repairs, calibrations, and test through a maintenance management application.
  • Provide written technical documentation of analysis/ diagnosis of procedures and/or malfunctions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

Associate degree from an accredited college or university and at least four (4) years of related work experience. Extended work experience may be substituted for educational credentials if appropriate.

Language Skills

Ability to speak, read and write both Spanish and English in a work setting.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Possession of a valid driver’s license in the appropriate class and any other certificates, licenses and registrations as required by law to perform the specified functions.
