Hours: A minimum of 20 hours per week is desirable; additional hours may be available.

Salary: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour

SUMMARY

Purple Line Transit Operators (PLTO) is a private consortium with a 30-year contract with the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) as part of a multi-billiondollar Public-Private Partnership (P3) contract. PLTO is responsible for Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the Purple Line light rail system within Maryland’s Montgomery County and Prince George’s County where Glenridge and Lyttonsville O&M Facilities (OMFs) are located, respectively. As the managing partner of PLTO, Alternate Concepts, Inc (ACI) is an industry leader in mass transit operations and maintenance, and the O&M provider of the nation’s first Design-Build-Operate-and-Maintain (DBOM) transit project – Tren Urbano – and of the nation’s first Design-Build-Finance-Operate-and-Maintain (DBFOM) transit project – Eagle P3 Denver, Colorado. On behalf of PLTO, ACI is actively recruiting to hire a part-time or full-time senior student or recent graduate to join our team to be a part of an iconic public transportation project in the United States. The intended employment duration is through the end of Spring 2023 semester (May 2023). Exemplary performance may lead to an opportunity for an extended employment duration.

Responsibilities:

  • Become familiarized with and use specialized software tools to load manuals and parts catalogs for facilities, engineering, and railcar maintenance departments. This includes importing images, creating hot spots, and testing cross-referenced data.
  • Review and become familiarized with the contract documents that outline PLTO’s and the design build contractor’s obligations and responsibilities and be proactive in identifying design or field changes or decisions that may impact PLTO’s ability to fulfill its scope of delivery within budget and schedule.
  • Review and become familiarized with technical documents and drawings related to the OMFs, passenger stations and systems that fall under PLTO’s scope of work. Examples include Access Control, Closed-Circuit Television system, Fire Alarm, Communications, and Track/Rail.
  • Review and become familiarized with product submittals, shop drawings, and other technical documents as needed
  • Perform field visits, utilizing engineering knowledge and field observations to help identify, investigate, and solve issues.
  • Work with department managers to review and finetune the information for assets and related preventive maintenance in the system.
  • Extract preventive maintenance requirements from asset O&M manuals and create preventive maintenance tasks and schedules in PLTO’s asset and maintenance management systems.
  • Act as a professional and responsible representative of PLTO, at all times
  • Assist the management team, such as the Facilities Manager, with the selection, requisition, and procurement of special tools and pieces of equipment to be delivered, housed and used inside the Glenridge OMF. This includes maintaining an updated log, providing supporting documentation for equipment, and communicating with different suppliers and manufacturers while considering quality, budget/cost, schedule, and scope.
  • Fulfill all other duties as assigned

Motivated candidates expressing a willingness to learn and invest in a career in the transit industry will receive strong consideration. To perform this job responsibly, individuals must have excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills in English, sound judgment, eagerness to learn, ability to interact with different project team members and stakeholders in a professional setting, and an ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Strong interest in rail transit O&M as well as project engineering as a career is preferred. The possession of a valid driver’s license is required.

Education and/or Experience

Enrolled in or have completed a bachelor’s (GPA 3.0/4.0 and above) or master’s degree in engineering, Project/Construction Management or related field at an accredited college or university. Upon acceptance to the position, the candidate will be required to have his/her official transcripts directly transmitted to ACI by the institution.

Computer Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office/365 applications such as Excel.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, and sit for periods of time varying in length, walk up and down stairs, and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment

Depending on the number of hours engaged, successful candidates will be expected to work in a hybrid workplace where frequent field visits, in-office presence, and remote work may be combined. While performing the duties of this job (while in the field), the employee must be aware of his/her surroundings and may be exposed to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical systems, and building components as well as varying noise levels both within the Glenridge maintenance yard and inside the OMF building. Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times while in the field and in construction zones.
